From this Friday on, for one week, Berliners and visitors will leave the well-known realm surrounded by the S-Bahn-ring and discover hidden workshops, brand new galleries, art, science, and fashion in old industrial buildings along the river Spree: its Kunst am Spreeknie, the Schöneweide Art Festival.
The Festival shows a thriving art scene that most of the time is rather hidden behind the yellow brick facades of the old industrial buildings that characterize the district. Schöneweide is a neighborhood in transition – after the loss of the old manufacturing industries the local government and the people are drafting possible futures for the district. As in many places, creative industries are part of these.
The district possesses a critical amount of fashion designers and tailors as well as a University that trains future designers and fashion makers. From Friday 19th to Sunday 21st you can see and take home some of the pieces created in here: We assembled a bulk of the Schönweide fashion scene for a pop-up-store! The temporary store features local labels like Julice en Rêve, CharLe, Carla Ballesta, Adriana Rica, poimia kukkia, and oberschön supported by our friends from NEMONA: berlinfabrik, berlin my inspiration, and P|AGE, as well as upcoming fashion designers from the local university.
Location: Wilhelminenhofstraße 33, 12459 Berlin (across the street from the main festival campus at Rathenau Hallen) – don’t be afraid of the distance to the inner city: there will be a free solar shuttle ship to Schöneweide, leaving from East-Side-Gallery / O2-World all weekend!
