On August 31st (7 p.m.), INPOLIS GmbH, zuhause e. V. and Vollgut GmbH take the stage at Vollgutlager on the site of the old ‘Kindl’ brewery in Berlin-Neukölln (Werbellinstraße 50, 12053 Berlin) and organise a panel discussion on local city development in the north of Neukölln.
Point of departure for the event is the spatial bundling of different measures of city development in this part of Berlin. The inner-city part of the district Neukölln is not only an extensive area of neighbourhood management but also rates as a zone for urban redevelopment (since 2011). These two measures are complemented by the following proposal of the political party Bündnis 90/Die Grünen: within the framework of a social-ecological IBA 2020 (International Building Exhibition 2020), the party suggests to position the north of Neukölln as a role model neighbourhood.
Following this situation, several questions arise: which strategies are appropriate for the north of Neukölln? Which potentials relate to the spatial bundling of the above mentioned measures of city development? Which overlaps might result from this? Is there an integrative approach to jointly think about both city development as well as culture and economy? Does an urban upgrading entail the threat of driving out and excluding certain members of the local society?
These questions will be discussed (in German!) by Franziska Eichstädt-Bohlig (Sprecherin für Stadtentwicklung Fraktion Bündnis 90/Die Grünen im Abgeordnetenhaus Berlin), Dr. Dorothea Kolland (Leiterin Kulturamt Neukölln), Clemens Mücke (Leiter Wirtschaftsförderung Neukölln), Philip Gehrke (dieraumplaner), and Ares Kalandides (INPOLIS). Johannes Novy (Center for Metropolitan Studies, TU Berlin) will act as the moderator of the discussion.
